Lack of personal transportation is an issue that can only be resolved through the ownership of a reliable vehicle. Those who cannot afford personal transportation experience a life altering barrier, as it effects their day-today living. This especially affects low-income families and individuals that are gainfully employed or are seeking employment, but lack transportation. Reliable transportation is extremely important for adults and children facing chronic health issues, on-going doctor treatments and appointments.

Across the nation there are varying types of donated car programs serving different purposes. There are programs utilized to raise funds for non-profit organizations, with other programs donating vehicles at specific times of the year, while others are targeted and only serve specific populations. Many human service and healthcare providers recognize that transportation is a major factor in determining the over-all effectiveness of vital services and training across the board. A collaborative effort that aggressively addresses transportation issues requires thinking outside of the box and utilizing both conventional and non-conventional methods to provide a transportation safety net.

Area service providers, city, and county and state government all have a vested interest in programs that increase access to services that help to address the transportation issues. The ability to resolve issues requires staying ahead by taking a pro-active stance while reacting to issues after the fact is like placing a ban-aide on an open wound. The network invests in it’s programs. Network program’s comes to the community with resources that are provided by the network.
